How to make Google Adsense ads appear on my blog?

I am not an internet expert; nonetheless, I have my own blog (abhinavthewriter.blogspot.com) with blogger. I formed that blog mainly because it was free to join. Then my friend told me that since now I have a blog with blogger, I should join Google Adsense and who knows, may be one of these days, I may end up earning a few bucks from my blog. So I joined Google Adsense and have tried a number of times posting the content ads and search box option on my blog but have failed. Google Adsense website generates the code and then asks me to paste that code in the html body of my blog and save the changes. Well, I have tried doing that several times, but somehow, no ads appear on my blog page. So friends, f anyone of you have already done this, i.e. posted Google Adsense ads and Google Adsense search box code on their blog or webpage, kindly guide me in an step-by-step fashion how to accomplish this seemingly insurmountable task. I really need your help. Thanks.

Go to the ‘layout’ (from your dashboard).

Click ‘add a page element’ in the place where you want your ad.

Then, if you have generated the code in your Adsense account, click ‘html/javascript’ and paste it in there. You can move it after you’ve pasted it, if you don’t like where it has gone, by clicking and dragging the box.

Alternatively, instead of selecting the html/javascript box, you can select the Adsense box, and generate the code within your Blogger account, making sure it picks up the correct publisher-id from your Adsense account. You will then need to enable access to Blogger in your Adsense account.
